General Project Description
(Themes addressed and population served):

C.L.A.S.S.I.C. will provide knowledge, pedagogical strategies, and materials for western Kansas K-12 science/mathematics teachers that support unit construction and are aligned with the Kansas standards in science, mathematics and reading. Participants will improve teaching skills and quality of instruction in the natural sciences of the Great Plains. Half of the participants will come from geographically remote, western Kansas schools and those with racially diverse student populations. Shared involvement in the two four-day summer workshops and subsequent field trials and report sessions will foster permanent partnerships between FHSU's College of Education, Sternberg Museum of Natural History, For Hays Educational Development Center (FHEDC), and Kansas Schools.
